The founder Mr Giovanni Cristina, such as many  umbrella makers, came from Lake Maggiore. He was used to cycle the local fairs. On his bike he had a leather bag where he put his tools and the umbrellas to repair. In 1890 he stopped in Montagnana and organized a little workshop in his house. He worked the umbrellas on the table and sold them at the marketplace.

Over the years the firm has passed from father to son and during the 70's it focused on the production of high quality umbrellas, especially on folding umbrellas for bags. In that period the production exceeded  the 100.000 pieces per year and Ombrellificio Crema was considered as reference point for umbrellas in the North East of Italy.

In the same period, while our firm was growing as exporter in Europe, the beach tourism was starting in Italy . That is why my grandfather introduced beach umbrellas. We also began to satisfy the request of maxi umbrella used mainly in fairs and marketplaces, their structure was made both in wood and aluminum.

Grandfather Lorenzo was in partnership with his brother Enrico and around the end of the 70's they decided to separate. After some years our uncle left his firm. That firm located in Montagnana went on producing  maxi umbrellas in wood for gardens and advertising which was beginning in that period. Ombrellificio Crema was  marginally involved in advertising, trying to develop the contract market.

During the 80's the first importation from Eastern Asia began. All the umbrella makers thought it was a good opportunity to satisfy the lower market requests but unfortunately in a few years the European rain umbrella market was overcome by the Oriental competitors and we had to reorganize our firm. The unexpected and important reduction of the prices caused the close-down or the conversion for many of our suppliers and it strongly changed the use of the rain umbrella, from an accessory of clothing to a throw-away item.

My brother and I joined the company in the 90's with the purpose to relaunch the umbrellas for professional use in hotels and beaches. We needed to offer a wide range of products and started with sunbeds and outdoor furnishing. But our location did not allow  the internal production of maxi umbrella frames, we designed them in the firm but they were assembled by third parties in the area.

About us

We are a modern, organized and certified company. Our quality management  is certified ISO 9001, therefore our documents and goods are constantly checked and planned.

The sale department, is externally organized with sales representatives and suppliers working in the Ho. Re. Ca. sector. Monomandatory and plurimandatory representatives follow the final customers, while suppliers are followed by our sales office. Representatives and suppliers work in different areas so that they do not overlap. Our internal sales office is composed by two people, both organized to satisfy promptly Italian and foreign customers requests.

The approved orders are sent to the purchase and logistic office where the person in charge verifies the availability of raw materials and eventually purchase them.

The production is divided into departments: cutting, sewing, laboratory and warehouse. The person in charge for logistics organizes weekly the different departments by using a board divided into sections for every single department.  Everyone knows the production planning and the warehouse the delivery dates.

The warehouse is organized with advanced IT and logistic systems that permit to have under control the availability and request of raw materials, semi-finished and finished products and their locations.

The administration department works with accounting, billing and current assets. The person in charge cooperates monthly with an external consultant and works with my monitoring.

The technical department is run by my brother Crema Alessandro who uses advanced software to create new items and their production procedures.

Our present building is divided into several sections: show room 180 sq m, offices 120 sq m, production 900 sq m, warehouse 900 sq m and other 3.200 sq m for service area, parking and loading ramp. Logistics and goods' flows follow fixed routes in order to optimize the production.

Our business is characterized by high and low season, typical for our product, that is why we have around 12 people during winter and more than the double in the summer.
